DUTIES AND RESPONSIBITIES

Summary: Under general supervision, the Utilities Craftsman performs a variety of technical tasks related to installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing heating, water and drainage systems, according to specifications and plumbing codes. Maintains water and wastewater treatment facilities, processing, and testing equipment in a water treatment facility to purify water to meet permit and operational requirements. The Utilities Craftsman troubleshoots and diagnoses operational problems and takes corrective action per procedure and process knowledge. Monitors flow meters, gauges, flow ratios, pressures and related controls through instrument panels and programmable logic control units in assigned area. Monitors and records operating conditions observations and data in area shift log. Ensures conformance to process specifications. Verifies and reports suspected malfunctions and variances to the supervisor. Performs routine and preventative maintenance and maintenance related items as assigned. Performs field laboratory tests to determine chemical dosages for efficient process control. Ensures that all safety and environmental requirements are consistently achieved. Installs, inspects, maintains, troubleshoots, repairs, and modifies potable water distribution system/lines. Performs maintenance on the water treatment system on a daily, weekly, monthly, bi-monthly, semi-annual, annual, or as needed basis. Maintenance will be performed in accordance with manufacturer’s specifications and known industry best practices.

1.Reports directly to the applicable Utilities Lead, Plumbing, or assigned applicable work leader.

2.Ensures all tasks assigned are carried out in a satisfactory manner in accordance to established standards.

3.Installs, troubleshoots, repairs, and replaces all types of plumbing fixtures, such as sinks, toilets, urinals, flush valves, bathtubs, faucets, water heaters, hot water tanks, garbage disposals, and dishwashers.

4.Clears all types and sizes of drains with cable machine and pressure washer.

5.Repairs all types of water and sewer lines both inside and outside buildings.

6.Inspects structure to ascertain obstructions to be avoided to prevent weakening of structure resulting from installation of pipe.

7.Locates and marks position of pipe and pipe connections and passage holes for pipes in walls and floors.

8.Cuts and threads pipe, using pipe cutters, cutting torch, and pipe threading machine.

9.Bends pipe to required angle by use of pipe-bending machine or by placing pipe over block and bending it by hand.

10.Cuts openings in walls and floors to accommodate pipe and pipe fittings by using hand tools and power tools.

11.Installs valves, pipefittings and pipes composed of metals, such as iron, steel, brass and lead, and nonmetals, vitrified clay, and plastic.

12.Joins pipes by use of screws, bolts, fittings, solder and plastic solvent and caulks joints.

13.Fills pipe system with water or air and reads pressure gauges to determine whether system is leaking.

14.Performs assigned treatment plant rounds: inspect, monitor, troubleshoot, performance test and document plant processes.

15.Operates and adjusts treatment plant pumps, motors, feeders and other equipment to maintain appropriate plant operations.

16.Maintains, compiles and updates water and wastewater plant operations logs and reports. Performs and records mathematical calculations related to plant operational activities.

18.Installs, maintains, repairs, modifies, troubleshoots, and services plant operations machinery and equipment including pumps, valves, motors, meters, tanks, reservoirs, and feeders.

19.Collects and documents samples and performs a variety of routine water quality laboratory tests. Works closely with laboratory vendors, monitors laboratory results, collects water samples as required.

21.Tests and repairs backflows with USC guidelines and requirements.

22.Work may be strenuous and may involve working outdoors during inclement weather.

23.Complies with applicable Royal Decree, OSHA and AFOSH safety regulations.

24.Must be knowledgeable of Spanish and USAF safety policies.

25.Adheres to all pertinent USAF / KBR policies, plans and directives.

26.Performs all other duties as assigned including supporting other departments or special projects.
