R&D Powertrain Engineer

IDIADA offers you the opportunity to develop a career in one of the worldwide leading automotive engineering companies. We are looking for new talents to join IDIADA’s powertrain light-duty vehicles engineering team located in our HQ office in Spain.

Reporting to the Project Manager, you will be involved in complete vehicle testing in the field of emissions, fuel consumption, electric energy management, and range EV for all types of technologies: ICE, Hybrid, PHEV, EVs, and H2 vehicles.

The candidate will contribute to different activities for a wide range of R&D projects (EU funded and for clients worldwide) in the areas of vehicle energy consumption, powertrain electrification, and pollutant emissions. Vehicle test data analysis, SQL database usage, visualization, and scripting/automation of tasks are also part of the scope of work.

We are looking for highly motivated candidates willing to assume challenges related to the assessment of the environmental impact of all vehicle technologies.

• Support the Project Manager with projects related to Green NCAP. Testing program and environmental impact assessment involving a wide range of activities: real driving testing, climatic testing, vehicle instrumentation, data analysis, and reporting.
• Project Management of complete testing programs. Schedule and organization. Coordination and supervising the execution of tests according to client’s needs. Definition of the activities to be performed as well as arrangement of the required facilities and manpower considering the resources availability.
• Project follow-up, day-to-day communication with clients, updates on the progress, validation of the testing data, and results of work through technical discussion with a problem-solving approach.
• Improvement of test procedures and reporting to fulfill internal quality standards and enhance the efficiency of processes.
• Knowledge about powertrain testing protocols, especially Green NCAP testing protocols, and discussion at a European level for further improvement of the assessment methods.
• Development of scripts and tools in Matlab/Visual Basic/Python for the automation of pre/post-processing, data analysis, and reporting tasks.
• Analysis of market trends and regulatory frameworks affecting vehicle energy efficiency and pollutant emissions of passenger cars and motorcycles.
• Preparation of quotations for customers.
• Presentations (commercial and technical) to the customers.

Profile

• 1 to 3 years of experience in the Automotive Industry, preferably in the powertrain area.
• Previous experience in powertrain testing protocols.
• Previous experience in electric energy management and range activities for EV.
• Knowledge of Python, Visual Basic, and data analysis.
• Project management and technical experience are valuable.
• Open, highly motivated personality with a hands-on mentality, able to work autonomously as well as being part of a team in a hybrid style (office and remote).
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Education

• Master of Science or equivalent degree in Industrial, Mechanical, Automotive Engineering, or similar.

Language

• Fluent in English is mandatory.
