A vacancy for an open position inside the Industrial Composite Technology Innovations team for Central Manufacturing Engineering has arisen within Airbus (Commercial Aircraft) in Illescas. This team is the transnational team maturing new technologies in R&T in order to improve legacy & future programs.

1. Accountabilities : Being a key actor on the R&T projects, the jobholder is responsible for the development & maturation of New Composite Manufacturing Technologies up to industrial maturity demonstration at full scale.The Jobholder is accountable and responsible for:

  • Driving & executing the Composites Industrial Technology R&T activities
  • Planning & executing Industrial technology R&T development
  • Steer our industrial and academic partners on Composite Technology developments
  • Set up the Technology roadmap to deliver mature R&T solutions with a robust route to industrialisation (for both current and future products)
  • Maintain a Technology scouting initiative aligned with the Roadmap
  • Protecting IP ownership

2. Mission & Responsibilities**

  • Lead composite technology development including composite automation & inspection processes
  • Define & Perform physical trials and development relating to Forming & Infusion processes, data capture and analysis.
  • Work alongside the Manufacturing, Design, Stress, Quality & Simulation Engineers to develop end-to-end solutions for Composite inspection management & analysis.
  • Specify, develop and implement a range of different CFRP materials and their Industrial processes, including means, tooling and simulation capability.
  • Collaborate with partners such as Technological centers or suppliers for new developments
  • Manage risks inside the R&T projects
  • Deliver of Technologies in R&T projects (not just design concepts, but build prototypes and demonstrate process capability)

3. Competences :

  • Minimum Master Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Composite, Manufacturing systems,)
  • Fundamental knowledge on Composite materials and processes is mandatory including inspection technologies & automation.
  • Awareness of Composites Assembly processes & technologies would be appreciated
  • Knowledge of Composite Quality requirements, including manufacturing Specifications, Processes & Standards
  • Experienced in shop floor projects related to composite manufacturing, including inspection processes & technologies.
  • Able to define Design for Manufacture requirements & challenge State of the Art designs
  • Project Management experience & skills are nice to have
  • Agility to operate & communicate in multi-stakeholder environments and on blue sky topics (with poor definition of parameters)
  • Demonstrate a strong vision of what the future composite industrial system and enabling materials and processes should look like
  • Ability to work in multi-disciplinary and transnational environment, understanding of the Airbus context
  • Creative, open mindset, willingness to explore & learn
  • Team player
  • Negotiation level in English

This role will involve business travels to composite plants and suppliers and as such you must be able to travel accordingly.
