Senior Legal Counsel- Spain

Reporting to: General Counsel Spain

Role

The Group Legal and Compliance team of ArcelorMittal is responsible for legal service and support to the business focusing on areas of expertise such as: business development, joint ventures and partnerships, disputes and litigation, competition law, International Trade, Funding, Environment, Climate Change, Health & Safety, corporate issues generally, corporate governance, compliance and data-protection, commercial contracts, labor law, intellectual property and trade secrets, finance. The mission of the ArcelorMittal Legal, Compliance and Company Secretarial Function is to add value to the organization by providing proactive, strategic, effective and efficient advice and to assist in identification and management of legal, regulatory and governance risks and opportunities.

You will provide advice and guidance on a wide variety of legal matters throughout a range of business environments in Spain as well as across Europe and Segment’s operations worldwide. Our ideal candidate is experienced and interested in (i) Spanish regulatory law; (ii) Commercial and civil law (iii) labor law, etc.

This function requires strong project management skills and leadership qualities. You will have the ability to coach and empower colleagues towards efficiency and excellence.

The position will be located in Asturias (ArcelorMittal’s central offices close to Avilés), but you might have to travel from time to time in Spain (and occasionally abroad)

Responsibilities:

Specific accountabilities and responsibilities include:

  • Primarily acting as trusted senior legal advisor in Spain. Proactively providing sound and pragmatic counseling, at the same time minimizing and mitigating legal risks.
  • Advising on a wide variety of commercial and corporate matters, with a particular (but not exclusive!) focus on the areas above.
  • Delivering training to the business teams on a variety of legal and compliance related matters.
  • Actively participating and supporting international legal initiatives of ArcelorMittal. Regularly sharing best practices, new challenges or developments, innovations and efficiency related projects.

Competencies :

  • 8- 10 years of work experience on a wide-range of legal matters in the areas of administrative law (in fields such as regulated energy markets, renewable energy, urban planning, environment), commercial and corporate law and labor law.
  • Experience in an (inter)national law firm or (international) company is a prerequisite.
  • Fluent in English and Spanish

Education :

  • Master’s degree in Spanish Law or Dual degree in Law and Business Administration.
  • Admitted to the Bar in Spain

Skills :

  • The willingness and capability to be a “hands-on” lawyer, with a proactive, energetic and enthusiastic approach.
  • The willingness and capability to analyze and solve complex legal issues.
  • The willingness to develop a thorough understanding of and familiarity with ArcelorMittal, ArcelorMittal’s businesses, its people, markets, facilities and customers.
  • Strong communications skills: ability to effectively communicate in an international environment, with various stakeholders;
  • Stress-resistant, flexible and open to embracing changes (future forward looking mentality).
