Reporting to the Senior Occupational Health and Safety Advisor, the incumbent will be responsible for the coordination and administration of OH&S program activities and projects to support business objectives. The incumbent will partner with local business leaders to ensure compliance and provide day-to-day leadership in the continued building of a strong culture of safety.

Position: Occupational Health & Safety Advisor
Term: Full Time, Permanent
Location: GTA – Central District
Start Date: August 2024

Job Responsibilities:

  • Ensure Health & Safety standards are met by coordinating, promoting and conducting various OH&S programs and activities related to the OH&S Management System.
  • Conduct OH&S assessments and periodic audits; implement health and safety strategies and action plans; coach and advise management on OH&S policies, procedures, practices, and legislative requirements.
  • Continue building a strong safety culture by promoting the philosophy that safety is a value associated with every priority.
  • Coordinate training and development programs for the business unit by analyzing training needs and developing training presentations.
  • Actively support preventative injury initiatives, focusing on Serious Injury or Fatality (SIF) prevention.
  • Provide leadership, coaching, teaching, and mentoring to project team supervisors.
  • Assist with the design of standards, programs, and procedures to control, eliminate, and prevent disease or injury.
  • Participate in the investigation of serious incidents and injuries.
  • Advise on compliance matters and interact with stakeholders regarding municipal, provincial, and federal agencies as needed.
  • Provide subject matter expertise and develop practical solutions to resolve safety issues.
  • Prepare and maintain internal and external reports.
  • Actively participate in the corporate safety network and help develop corporate standards and best practices.

Requirements:

  • University degree in an appropriate discipline or an equivalent combination of post-secondary education and acquired work experience.
  • 3-5 years of experience in Health and Safety, preferably in the construction industry.
  • Possess a Valid Driver’s License (Class G or equivalent).
  • Sound knowledge of OH&S principles, policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Excellent communication, analytical, and organizational skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and a sense of urgency.
  • Ability to work independently in a high-paced environment.
