About BSC

The Barcelona Supercomputing Center - Centro Nacional de Supercomputación (BSC-CNS) is the leading supercomputing center in Spain. It houses MareNostrum, one of the most powerful supercomputers in Europe.

We are particularly interested for this role in the strengths and lived experiences of women and underrepresented groups to help us avoid perpetuating biases and oversights in science and IT research.

Context And Mission

The Computational Social Science and Humanities program envisions preparing the social sciences and humanities for the era of data, artificial intelligence (AI), and Exascale supercomputing.

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced researcher to work in the field of Complexity Science applied to social sciences and humanities.

Key Duties

  1. Write and submit project proposals of the highest scientific quality to seek competitive financial support at the international and European levels.
  2. Conduct innovative research in the field of Complexity Science using computational methods.
  3. Collaborate with internal and external research groups, consolidating existing interdisciplinary collaborations and forging new alliances to advance in the field.

Requirements

  1. Education: PhD in Complex systems and Social and Emotional Behavior
  2. Essential Knowledge and Professional Experience:
  • Excellent experience in Data Science, conducting computational social science research, in particular on complex systems and AI Psychometrics.
  • Proven experience in coordinating and managing research projects.
  • Proven track of publications on topics related to Complexity Science.
  • Additional Knowledge and Professional Experience:
    • Prior experience in grant writing and securing research funding from competitive funding agencies.
    • Outstanding knowledge of computational methods and data processing and analysis, NLP, AI/ML and LLMs with a special focus on applications in the social sciences.
    • Excellent communication skills in spoken and written English.
  • Competences:
    • Capacity to contribute to research projects with novel research ideas and analysis.
    • Excellent problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail and a commitment to scientific rigor.
    • Excellent communication skills to specialized audiences, co-researchers and other team members.

    Conditions

    The position will be located at BSC within the Directors Department. We offer a full-time contract (37.5h/week), a good working environment, a highly stimulating environment with state-of-the-art infrastructure, flexible working hours, extensive training plan, restaurant tickets, private health insurance, support to the relocation procedures.
